It's not an adventure until something goes wrong
Pictures
I am in an internet cafe in lavrio Greece. I did not plan on being here. I spent the night in a hotel in Lavrio. I did not even plan on going to Lavrio. I got here due to a set of unfortunate events. After leaving the popular island of Mykonos we put our sails up for the fist time thanks to a bit of wind. We had motored the day before due to the lack of wind. We went to the island of Tinos for a nice dinner and on to Andros for a beautiful mooring. From Andros we planed on going to Kea for a night and onto mainland Greece near Athens for the last couple of nights. That's when things went wrong.
Kea was nice enough for a night. The day after the nice enough night we decided to stay the day and explore the island. Jessica persuaded me to do this by the most dangerous means possible, scooter. It would have been safer to hire a blind taxi driver with a taxi that had no seat belts. We took our scooter to a Greek orthodox church high upon a hill- there were more churches in Kea than people. At the church our scooter would not start. I resisted my mechanical urge to take the bike apart and fix it my self (Jessica would not let me- I had my leather man tool). So we called the owner via a nice Greek mans (I cant find the apostrophe key on this key board and most of the letter are worn off) cell phone. The owner came and found that the vacuum hose for the gas tank had come loose and was not providing back pressure.
The scooter was fixed and we were off, mostly over rough dirt roads. I was driving the bike like a a professional. I did not even notice the extra weight due to Jessica. If I rode fast enough the wind noise even drowned out her screams. We went to a few towns and I honed my scooter skills to perfection. Jessica was asking to drive. " I told her I did not want to crash", but I promised she could drive later. As I rounded a corner on a dirt road I slowed to look at a potential beach for swimming. The front tire dug into soft sand. The scooter, Jessica, my pride, future motocross hopes, and I, all fell into the dirt. I checked my pride, it was ruined. I checked Jessica, she was OK. The bike did not have a scratch. Jessica did not even give me a hard time! She did, however, remind me that if she had crashed the scooter she would never hear the end of it. I agreed. Later that day the front fender of the scooter fell of as we were driving down the road (I am convinced it was not from the crash). The scooter owner did not make me pay for the fender since the bike had broke down on us earlier that day.
The next morning the winds picked up as we headed for Athens. We breached the harbor mouth to find 6 foot seas and 30+ Knot winds. After 17 minutes at sea we had taken several waves over the bow of our 40 foot Catamaran. We had a "three hour tour" ahead of us, four sailors prone to vomiting, and only two buckets so we decided to turn back or Kea. We spent the next two days on Kea waiting for the winds to die down. With our flight out of Greece approaching we had one shot to make a ferry that might make it to Kea, winds permitting. We took the ferry to Lavrio to make our flights ( no ferries run from Kea to Athens). That is how I ended up internet cafe in Lavrio.

Wow you two - I just caught up with the last 13 days, 20 hours, 9 minutes, and some odd seconds (that will change many times before I am done) of your lives. Its been an eventful one I might say, but it sure looks fun. You two seem to be holding up on the cleanliness, I think the danglys are key! Keep the travel essays coming on your blog and continue the "should do/should not do" list for Luke and I. Some day we may be able to save up to go! GG tonight....know that you're missed! Love you two lots and pray for your safety.
At least you didn't try to walk on the water like Peter. Don't forget, the wind and the waves obey his voice ... peace be still.
Thank the good Lord for watching over his CHILDREN. Too bad the sea was so rough, but at least that's one dream under your belt. Hang on Jessica, don't let Brandon go to fast ... just blow in his ear once in a while. (smile) The pictures are GREAT !!! what an adventure ... Remember we love you both, and I'm sure the Lord is tired of having us beat on his door asking for safety and security. Enjoy!!! what a way to get to know each other.
Love ya,
Grandma and Grandpa Shuck
